Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints— – Ephesians 6:10 – 18 (NKJV)
The concept of the full armor of God comes from the New Testament, specifically Ephesians 6:10-18. It describes the spiritual equipment God provides to believers to stand against the Devil’s schemes. Drawing a comparison between protecting data for a  small business and the full armor of God can be a poetic and profound way to emphasize the importance of robust digital security measures. Let’s break it down.
THE FULL ARMOR OF GOD
Belt of Truth

Data Protection Comparison: The foundational truths about your business – its mission, vision, and values. In IT, this might translate to transparency about the methods and reasons for data collection, processing, and storage.

Breastplate of Righteousness

Data Protection Comparison: The main protection for the heart of the business – its core data. Just as the breastplate guards the heart, a strong firewall and antivirus software protect the heart of your IT infrastructure.
Shoes of the Gospel of Peace

Data Protection Comparison: Ensuring that the business operates with peace of mind. Reliable backup and disaster recovery solutions help businesses tread confidently,  knowing they can recover from data breaches or losses.

Shield of Faith

Data Protection Comparison: The faith or trust that customers place in a business.  Multi-factor authentication and regular security audits act as shields, deflecting potential threats and ensuring client trust is not misplaced.
Helmet of Salvation

Data Protection Comparison: The protection of the mind or the critical thinking of the business. Continuous employee training on the latest cybersecurity threats ensures that the entire team is equipped to identify and counteract potential threats.

Sword of the Spirit
Data Protection Comparison: The active tool used to counter and cut through the schemes of the enemy. Proactive threat detection and penetration testing act as the sword, seeking out vulnerabilities before they can be exploited.
Prayer
Data Protection Comparison: Constant communication and vigilance. Regularly updating software, monitoring systems for unusual activity, and staying informed about the latest cyber threats is akin to always being in communication and readiness.
In both cases, the full armor or a comprehensive data protection strategy, the goal is to always be prepared, proactive, and shielded from threats. It’s about taking the necessary precautions to ensure safety and stability in the face of challenges.
Let not mercy and truth forsake you;
Bind them around your neck,
Write them on the tablet of your heart,
And so find favor and high esteem
In the sight of God and man.
Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths. – Proverbs 3: 3-6 (NKJV)
But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. – Jeremiah 31:33 (NKJV)
